A Brief Synopsis of MM2K10
This year’s game centered on the theme of “Battle of the Bands.” Teams were asked to come up with band names and make stickers or flyers to advertise their band with. Puzzles throughout the night were usually somewhat musically themed- and, unlike most previous games, solved puzzles gave a music-themed passcode in order to gain the location of the next clue, rather that solving to gain the address directly.
Some other unusual additions to this year’s game included an ongoing side mission involving a list of photographs that bands could take throughout the night in order to gain more points- including “attacks” on other bands, such as a picture of another band’s members sleeping on the job. These pictures were all being uploaded in real time by using the SharkzRecords Twitter feed, as well as the MM2K10 hashtag. A few clues even featured a live internet broadcast from the clue location, so that anyone could log on and watch bands solving puzzles while on their “tour.” Oh, and let’s not forget that the game stretched from Hot Springs to Little Rock- which I think is another first for the Hot Springs-based game.
The final clue of the game- or “Final Battle”- was so close that it ultimately came down to each band’s performance of an original song that they were asked to perform at the finish line. Based on the melody of a real song, each team came up with their own unique lyrics featuring their experiences during the 15-hour game.
As each player makes any write-ups or photo feeds from their team’s experience playing MM2K10, the links will be featured and added along to the others currently found on the sidebar.
Thanks to everyone who followed along- and I hope you continue to do so as we gear up for MM2K11!
